What is likely to happen if I decide to have acupuncture?

There is an Initial Consultation which lasts about 75 minutes. This is confidential and includes a treatment.

During this time we will use a number of subtle diagnostic techniques, unique to Chinese Medicine, to formulate a complete picture of your health. This will include: taking a full, detailed medical history; your current symptoms; note of any prescribed medication; diet; sleep patterns; stress levels and anything else that might be affecting your health. We will also take your pulse and look at your tongue. Based on this information, we will make a full Traditional Chinese diagnosis and put together a personal treatment plan for your specific symptoms.

Subsequent consultations will last approximately 45 minutes.

Your progress will be reviewed at each subsequent consultation and prior to any treatment given.

We place great emphasis on the practitioner patient relationship. Whilst we treat and correct imbalances, we aim to give an insight into your condition and information you require to maintain your own health.

Most people find Acupuncture to be very relaxing and often fall asleep during their treatment.

Who has Traditional Chinese acupuncture?

Many people use Acupuncture to help with specific symptoms and conditions. Others choose Acupuncture to strengthen their constitution or because they feel generally unwell.

Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages, including babies, children, the elderly and those who are pregnant. People often seek treatment to help with fertility issues. If you have been struggling with infertility and are interested in another approach, Traditional Chinese Medicine may be a good place for you to start. Our aim is to help you conceive and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

How may Traditional Chinese Acupuncture help me?

Acupuncture is widely considered to be beneficial for a range of illnesses and symptoms from clearly defined complaints to more general feelings of ill health and low energy. It can also be very effective when integrated with conventional medicine.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your individual condition, usually between 4 and 10 treatments. Initially weekly and then spaced out as your condition improves. You may start to feel the benefits after the first or second treatment, although long standing chronic conditions may need more time to improve. Once your health has stabilised, you may require top up treatments every few weeks.

Chinese Acupuncture has traditionally been used as ‘preventative healthcare’, many people like to receive a “retuning” session at the change of each season throughout the year. This helps to reorganise the body’s own Qi in order for it to help heal itself and maintain health.
